1 Million US Jobs from Hemp. What’s the UK Waiting For?
Next Tuesday, we’ll be joined at the APPG for Hemp Carbon Credits and Rural Development by two guests from Washington: Anthony Fabrizio and David Culver. Influential voices in shaping US cannabis and hemp policy.
We’ll be discussing political and regulatory updates from the US, where a federally-led strategy is gaining traction. It’s built on biochar, fibre and biofuels, with hemp as the cornerstone crop. The numbers are compelling:
• 1 million new US jobs
• $56bn in annual income
• All from using just 5% of US farmland in rotation
If the UK applied those same 5% metrics to our own 16.8 million hectares of Utilised Agricultural Area (DEFRA, 2024), it could mean:
• Over £2 billion in annual income
• More than 46,000 skilled rural jobs
• All while sequestering carbon, driving innovation and regenerating farmland
Most importantly of all, we’ll be exploring how this directly translates to UK policy on investment, innovation and regulation. And why now is not the time for dawdling - but the moment to act.
Join us.
